January weekends in the Rocket City are pretty cold and quiet, but there’s still plenty to do if you need some ideas. Each week we list our favorite free and/or cheap events happening in Huntsville and there are several kids will love.

Teacher Appreciation Day at USSRC

Saturday – Monday

Our friends at the Space & Rocket Center are proud to salute teachers for all their hard work and dedication. Present your school identification throughout the weekend and receive free general admission for yourself and one guest to the museum.

MLK Day Parade

Saturday at 11:00 AM

This annual parade is all about “Keeping the Dream Alive” – come help celebrate and cheer on the floats, bands, and community groups participating as Dr. King’s memory and legacy are honored. Your family can also participate in the annual MLK Day of Service here.

Weekend Storytime

If you’re out and about this weekend, why not make a day of it and head to storytime at Barnes & Noble? Great books and Mama can grab a coffee while the littles browse the train table!

Saturday Art Market

One of our favorite places to spend a chilly Saturday with the family – you can always find something interesting at Lowe Mill. Grab a bite at Happy Tummy, a treat at Pizzelle’s Confections, and ride the elevator to see the Art Market vendors & amazing installations.

BLOW UP: Inflatable Contemporary Art

Need a Date Night? There are a couple of opportunities for a PNO this weekend. The best part? The kids won’t even miss you because they’ll be having too much fun. The Little Gym of Huntsville and The Hogan YMCA are both up for the challenge.

African American Pioneers & Innovators
