Mardi Gras Celebrations in North Alabama

  • Huntsville Parade – the Rocket City’s 4th annual parade is sure to delight the whole family… including Fido! Come catch some beads at this family-friendly event, and stay for the Krewe of Barkus! Get the Parade Route here.
  • Decatur Parades – The River City’s Prince & Princess parade starts at 12:30 PM and the big city Mardi Gras Parade is at 6:00 PM. Decatur knows how to Mardi Gras HARD. See even more events here.
Rocket City Weather Fest

Are you or your kids curious about why tornadoes occur or why the sky is blue? Are you curious about storm chasing? Come ask your questions and find your answers at Rocket City Weather Fest! Local Huntsville student and professional chapters of the American Meteorological Society and National Weather Association will host this event that is great for weather enthusiasts of all ages! Come sit in real storm chasing and weather research vehicles, attend Severe Weather 101, check out storm shelters, and participate in hands-on demonstrations and kids’ crafts. This weekend is also a state Weather Preparedness Sales Tax Holiday so go stock up on batteries and supplies!

Spring Into Summer Activities Fair

Featuring more than 35 member organizations of Arts Huntsville, the Spring Into Summer Activities Fair will highlight spring break and summer camps, workshops and classes in the fields of art, music, dance, theater, science, history and more. Black History Celebrations

Throughout February, local library branches have hosted some truly stellar programs for Black History Month, and they wrap up their series with two events this weekend!

  • Black History Celebration in Madison – Saturday from 1-4 PM
    start the afternoon with a speech event with Mr. Justin McFarland-TV-Personality/Radio, Military Soldier presentation, and others, we’ll move into an African Dance, Rhythm, and Musical experience, African Clothing, and Jewelry.
  • Huntsville Closing Celebration – Saturday from 3-8 PM
    The program begins with a special “Hidden Figures” seek and find, exploratory learning activity throughout the Downtown Library for children (and adults too!). There will also be some make-and-take hands-on STEAM activities set up in Youth Services area on the first floor. Shortly after 5 p.m., the festivities carry on with performing arts through music and dance.
