  1. “Raising A Resilient Child”

Thursday from 6:30PM-8:30PM: Kids aren’t the only one that need to prepare themselves for the upcoming school year – parents need to get ready too. Randolph School will help you start by hosting a free community event with author and family therapist, Dr. Robert Evans. “In a place like Huntsville, with one of the country’s largest research parks, a major NASA center, and one of the highest concentrations of PhDs per capita in the US, with high-achieving parents who want the best for their children, resilience is an important issue. It can be difficult to give children room to learn–including the vital learning that happens from disappointment and even failure–while still offering them necessary protection guidance. I hope to explore these issues with parents when I speak at Randolph.” This event is free and open to the public.

  2. Concerts On the Dock Double Header

Friday at 6:30PM: The weekly concerts at Lowe Mill will have not one, but two bands performing! Newcomers the Tangled String Band and Liquid Caravan are ready to help you start your weekend off right with some fantastic live tunes. Bring a picnic supper or grab a bite from Happy Tummy (I love the BBBLT!). Don’t forget your kids, lawn chairs, friendly & leashed dogs, and a libation or two.

  3. Spiderman at the Drive-In

Friday at 8:00PM: Did you know the Athens Cinemagic Theatre has a drive-in? And that tickets are $3-$5 each? This Friday they will debut The Amazing Spiderman with Andrew Garfield and Emma Stone. Watch it in your car or bring your lawn chairs to set up behind the Swagger Wagon. Gates open at 8:00, movie starts at 8:30 and BYOCF (bring your own Chinese food) is optional.

  4. Lowe’s Build & Grow Clinic

Saturday at 10:00AM: Do something productive this weekend and add a new skill to your set! Lowe’s hosts a free kids clinic every other Saturday this summer. Today you can build the Dragon from Shrek and get a free apron, goggles, patch, and much more!

  5. KidFest at Belk

Saturday from Noon to 3:00PM: Do some school shopping at Parkway Place mall and enjoy an in-store fashion show featuring clothing from the children’s department and fun, kid-themed elements such as facepainting, coloring, DJ, and light refreshments. “Elements” dance studio will perform and “The Glee Club Kids For Special Needs” from Merrimack Hall will close the show.
