We’re REALLY done with the rain over here. Hopefully the weather forecast will hold off long enough to work in some weekend fun! As always, we list our favorite family-friendly, free and/or cheap things to do in Huntsville and the surrounding areas right here just for you. And we’ve been doing it for almost SEVEN YEARS, so we feel completely qualified to be your go-to local resource for all things weekend.

Battle of the Food Truck All Stars

If food trucks are your family’s jam, this is a great way to kick off the weekend! Over 13 food trucks will duke it out to see who’s cuisine reigns supreme at the end of this six month series. Grab some food and hang out in the park, weather permitting.

Dog Days at Ditto

What should you expect at Dog Days at Ditto? Lots of great music, great food, fabulous tunes, and the best sunset view in the City. There will be free parking, food trucks, and musical guests Southern Halo, with Rob Aldridge and the Proponents will be performing. Leashed pets welcome, as is lawn chairs & blankets – please leave coolers at home.

Rocket City Championship Wrestling Match

our friends at the planetarium are busy preparing people for the Big Eclipse coming up next week! Their director, Roy Young, will be on hand to answer questions about the eclipse and answer questions like: How to safely view the eclipse? Why do eclipses occur? Where will the shadow fall? What could the weather be like? What will the eclipse be like in Huntsville?

Parent’s Night out

Come out for the Sidewalk Carnival Parent’s Night Out Party! There will be rides, food, games, prizes, karate, and LOTS OF FUN. The kids will use Blue Tickets to play on the rides and various booth games, “purchase” food, and bid on prizes, while parents get some much-needed “Me Time”. Huntsville Hamfest

Saturday & Sunday

Huntsville Hamfest once again will fill the VBC South Hall with antennae, radios, and every electronic testing gadget you can imagine. Hams, or amateur radio enthusiasts, can peruse the tables filled with everything from the latest radio to hear the unrest in Ukraine to an old-transmitting-tube WWII-era radios. Open to the public Sat, 9:00–4:30 PM and Sun, 9:00–3:00 PM.

Family Painting Party

Sunday from 2-4 PM

This kid’s and family painting class is especially for ages 5 and up! Teachers will walk the painters through the 11X14 Dandelion and Lady Bug step by step. Please plan to dress children in paint friendly clothing. Aprons and painting supplies are provided, plus you can take your work of art home afterward! Register online in advance.
