Wowza – there is no shortage of fun to be had in Huntsville this weekend! From Earth Day celebrations to beloved fairy tales to crazy things happening in the canal at the park, there’s bound to be something your family will enjoy. As always, we try to find the most fun, family-friendly, and free things to do in Huntsville in our weekly list.

Earth Day Storytime

Huntsville is full of green spaces and places and knows how to celebrate Earth Day right! I just hate choosing which event to go to this weekend, so we’re aiming for all of them! Get even more Earth Day events here.

Paddle the Canal Festival

Spectators who want to watch the Paddle the Canal races will have plenty to do in Big Spring Park this weekend! Races will be throughout the day on Saturday from 7AM-4PM. There will be other things going on in the park too – food trucks, the library’s Bookmobile, boat safety demonstrations, and more! Want to paddle? You must be 18 or over and you can sign up here.

Guided Walk in Historic Madison

Every spring, the Huntsville/Madison County Convention & Visitors Bureau shows off beautiful Huntsville and Madison through its free walking tours. Tours are guided by local experts and focus on the historic districts of both cities. Wear comfortable shoes; walks last approximately one hour and are rain or shine. Kid & stroller friendly!

Opus Tadpole

What sound does a French horn make? What is the difference between a viola and a violin? How many strings are on a harp? Children have fun discovering the answers to these musical questions and more during twenty-minute Opus Tadpole presentations, entertaining and interactive ways for our youngest listeners to learn about the instruments of the orchestra. Grownups may also learn a thing or two!

Annual Car & Bike Family Fest

Bring your lawn chairs and kick back and enjoy DJ BB while enjoying live entertainment with Huntsville Drumline Stick Masters and Prima Dance Team. The favorite video game truck, inflatables, food trucks, resource activity booths, and of course cool cars, bikes, and trucks will also keep you entertained. Enjoy flying kites or bike riding? There will be plenty of room to enjoy the spring day! Proceeds benefit the community work of R Fathers Mad.

Suck on Some Mud Bugs

The annual Heads-N-Tails Crawfish Boil is happening again! This is a family-friendly event with face painting, inflatables kid’s activities and live Zydeco music. Crawfish and other yummy food will be available for purchase. Parent Pro-tip: hit up Paddle the Canal, then head over to the VBC for some games and grub!

Fantasy Playhouse Presents “Pinocchio”

It’s the first weekend of the final show of their season, and Fantasy invites families to come see their production of “Pinocchio”. Join the Blue Fairy and his friends as they lead the audience through the classic Italian tale of the boy whose “nose” grew… and grew… and grew!

March for Babies & Superhero Sprint

We’ve shared why this event means so much to us, and today’s the day families can come out and demonstrate their support! Festivities at the March for Babies will be going on all day and kids can run in the Superhero Sprint. All proceeds go to research preventing premature birth, and birth defects for families in Alabama.
