May is a busy month in the River City! From Dragon Boats to Hot Air Balloons, there is no shortage of things for families to do in Decatur, Alabama!

PACT Touch-A-Truck

When: Saturday, May 5 | 10AM-2PM

Children of all ages will enjoy sitting behind the wheel of their favorite vehicles and learning about the people who operate them. Parents and Children Together (PACT) will bring in emergency vehicles, construction and farm equipment, boats, trucks, and more for kids to explore. Sensory sensitive hours are from 10AM-11AM. During this time, there will be no horns, sirens, or loud noises from the trucks and equipment. Touch-A-Truck benefits PACT, a family resource center committed to stopping child abuse.

The Market on Bank

When: First Saturdays of the Month, Now through October | 6PM-9PM

The first Saturday of each month brings entertainment, food, and fun for the whole family to Decatur’s historic Bank Street. This month features Jazz Under the Stars with Hartselle High Jazz Band opening for Randall Key and the Jazz Allstars.

Dragon Boat Festival

When: Saturday, May 12 | 8:30AM-4PM
Where: Point Mallard Park

For the past 7 years, authentic drum ceremonies have enveloped the beaches at Point Mallard Park have 46-foot long authentic Hong Kong-style dragon boats have cut a race course through the waves of the Tennessee River. Join the Decatur Morgan Hospital Foundation for the annual Dragon Boat Race and Festival presented by Toray. Proceeds will provide funding for a new state of the art Mobile Medical Unit to be used for community outreach. This event is fun for both participants and spectators and is a fun cultural event like no other in the area.

Where: 2nd Avenue in Downtown Decatur

Join the merchants and restaurants of 2nd Avenue for the best block party in town. Special discounts at stores, live music and entertainment in the streets, a classic car show, and games for children of all ages, and artisan vendors will line the historic downtown street which will be blocked from traffic so that everyone can enjoy this fun night in the River City.

Join all your favorite Christian bands for a free concert for all on the lawn in front of the Spirit of America stage. The event is free and fun for the whole family. However, event organizers are asking everyone to bring new or gently used shoes to donate for those in need.

Diner En Blanc

Where: It’s the best kept secret in town!

Established 30 years ago in Paris, Diner En Blanc is a chic all-white picnic that pops us in secret locations throughout the world, and it’s coming to the River City! You’ll need to grab a babysitter for this one, as Diner En Blanc is a 21 and older event. Admission is by invitation only, so contact the event organizers today to secure a spot on the waiting list.

Daikin Festival

Alabama Jubilee Hot Air Balloon Festival
