The Great Diaper Drive 2021

Way back in 2013, Rocket City Mom started a community initiative we called The Great Diaper Drive. The idea was to get together with a bunch of our friends, throw a party, and collect diapers for local babies in need. Now it’s over hundreds of thousands of diapers & wipes later and we’re getting ready for the 9th year of the Great Diaper Drive!

Our goal this year is to collect at least 100,000 diapers by November 11th, 2022. All of these donations will stay local, helping babies right here in Huntsville and North Alabama. We can’t do it without your help.

Why a Diaper Drive?

For families without enough money, running out of diapers is more than an inconvenience. Federal subsidy programs like the Supplemental Nutrition Assistance Program, or SNAP, and Women Infants Children, or WIC, don’t allow those dollars to be used to buy diapers.

According to the National Diaper Bank Network, 1 in 3 families experience diaper need.

Dirty diapers lead to painful rashes and, if untreated, serious infections, even hospitalization. Sick and hurting babies tend to cry. Crying babies create stress and added stress can lead to situations of domestic abuse and neglect.

If all of that can be avoided with a clean diaper, it’s up to us to build and empower our villages to provide them. We’ve joined forces with WHNT-19, iHeartRadio, 100.3 The River, Walmart, and The Food Bank of North Alabama to do just that!

Can You Throw a Diaper Shower?

That’s right. We’re asking all the people we work with and all the parents that visit this website regularly to help us collect diapers now through November 11th. There are a thousand different ways to do it – we’ve even got a Diaper Shower Party Kit that includes blank shower invitations and posters to help you invite all your friends! Be sure to check out our Great Diaper Drive Pinterest board for more fun shower ideas.

What Kinds of Diapers Are Needed?

We do accept individual diapers and open packs of diapers as donations! Got an opened pack your baby has outgrown? We’ll take them. We also accept cloth diapers, adult diapers, Pullups and Swimmies. Sizes that are most in demand are the larger diapers, but the FBNA Diaper Bank needs them all!

Short on time? Monetary donations to The Great Diaper Drive go a long, long way. We’ve made it easy to do that online here. You can also text “DIAPER” to 256-559-3299 to donate or just scan the QR code below.

After you’ve thrown a shower and collected tons of diapers, we want to recognize your hard work! Deliver them all on Diaper Blitz Day on Thursday, November 10th, 2022. WHNT will be doing a live remote at the Walmart Supercenter in Madison, and we’ll be getting the final count for all diapers collected. Remember, our goal is 100,000 diapers and wipes this year!

TELL US ABOUT IT! If your group is hosting a shower or collecting diapers, let us know! We’d love to add you to our list of participating community organizations and businesses that are helping out with this worthy cause. Remember, all proceeds & diapers collected benefit babies in North Alabama communities.
