The Author of Her Own Success

Entrepreneurship can strike in many different ways, but the best instances are when a personal passion becomes a livelihood.

Andrea DiLibero taught pre-kindergarten for more than 15 years. During that time in the classroom, she often wrote and illustrated her own unpublished stories to help educate her students and make their learning experiences more fun. This week, Patti’s Perfect Profession, her new children’s book, will become available in hard-back print.

“I wrote the book with humor and rhyme to make it fun to read, but my goal is to convey the importance of both play and imagination for children’s problem-solving, decision-making, confidence, and overall success.”

The process of writing, illustrating, and publishing her book took about nine months. Andrea relied on her expertise in early childhood education to develop a preschool curriculum for each of her books, and includes coloring sheets featuring the book’s characters for parents and teachers that visit her website. She’s a member of the Society of Children’s Book Writers and Illustrators, and is working on the second book in the series, Patrick Pretends.

Andrea illustrates her books using bright colors and her own cut-outs. “I am so passionate about the content, color and creativity of my books, so I want to share them with everyone! It is awesome to meet lots of interesting people, and interact with precious children, and is so rewarding.”

Visiting classrooms and performing readings with students are important aspects of being an author for this former teacher. “While promoting literacy, another one of my themes is to make a child giggle. The more children I can reach as a means to these goals, the more success I have achieved.”
