Women in Music Weekend features Musical Moms

Between homework, imparting life lessons, extracurriculars, work life, and our own passions – motherhood is a constant balancing act. I know I find myself rocking it some days and other days I look in the backseat and there is my daughters backpack (and a random sneaker) at 1:30 in the afternoon on a school day. How do you manage to teach tiny humans and fulfill your own passions outside of the home? Mamas who are also music lovers can find a little inspiration at the Women in Music Weekend.

August 9th – 12th, Downtown Huntsville, Inc. will be hosting the largest Downtown Women in Music Weekend in the state.

This event will include over 25 local female musicians and 15+ venues. Women in Music Weekend is an incredible way to support local women in the growing Huntsville music industry and explore some of the awesome venues downtown has to offer. These performances are completely free to attend, yes FREE!

Music & Motherhood

One thing that made me truly excited about this event – besides the awesome girl power – was that several of these rockstar ladies are moms as well. Ingrid Marie, one of the featured musicians, had this to say about motherhood and her music career.

“…[T]o operate this way takes great self-care. At first it feels wrong to put time aside for yourself when you have a newborn. But after a certain week, once baby has found an equilibrium in the home — we MUST do what we are. One day early on, both children saw their first Mom show, in front row seats on the lap of a family friend. Parenting is Passion!”

The takeaway from all this is very simple. Women are amazing and it is completely acceptable for you to rock a stroller and a guitar. The backpack in the backseat is not the end of the world – you mom, are a ROCKSTAR.

We invite you to attend one or more of the Downtown Women in Music Weekend performances. For more information about the musicians, venues, or a schedule – please visit the Downtown Huntsville, Inc Facebook Event Page.
