Science of the Holidays at Sci-Quest

Updated for 2015

Are you looking for a fun and festive holiday activity for all ages? Would you like a little science in your holiday fun? Well then “Science of the Holidays” at Sci-Quest Hands-On Science Center is exactly what you need!

Sci-Quest has “decked the halls” with lighted trees, decorations hanging from the ceiling, lights and more, and the whole place comes alive in the evening. In addition to the many displays on the floor, Sci-Quest has set up several holiday-themed tables with hand-on experiments and activities. Our little one enjoyed making snow, making noise makers and a toy to take home, and painting with ice.

Older children will certainly enjoy creating an ornament with the Egg Bot. Add your own words and shapes to an ornament and take it home. What a neat memory for the tree! Learn about ice crystals and make frozen décor. Challenge yourself with some holiday origami. And don’t worry, there are Sci-Quest “Elves” at each station to help anyone who needs it. We had a lot of fun going from station to station, and I think the adults had as much fun as the kids!

Fun for the Whole Family

We stayed very busy until it was time to enter the laboratory for “Chocolate Covered Science.” Who knew there was so much science behind chocolate? Everyone got to taste raw chocolate and compare it to other chocolates, and then we all got to make our own chocolate using different ingredients. This was fun for all ages and involved a lot of laughter and a little mess-making.

The Holiday Family Labs have limited seating, so be sure and get your tickets as soon as you arrive. You might want to plan your visit around which holiday treat is your favorite so check the full schedule here.

Sci-Quest is also offering Parent’s Night Out featuring Science of the Holidays every Friday in December – a perfect opportunity to do some shopping without the kids.
