Huntsville Halloween Events Teens Will Love

teen holding Halloween pumpkins

Do you have a tween or teenager who is “too old” for trunk or treats and pumpkin patches but still wants to celebrate Halloween? We do too and are here to help! We’ve rounded up several ways to celebrate Halloween with your tween, ranging from slightly spooky to just plain scary.

Visit a Historical Cemetery

This is great for tweens and teens that love history or appreciate a time-lost adventure! While this can be a bit creepy during a nighttime visit, it can be peaceful too. All cemeteries have their own hours and regulations, so be sure to check the one you intend to visit. Please be mindful and respectful of the individuals laid to rest there. Our favorite to visit is Maple Hill Cemetery, you can find notable people buried with a quick Google search. It is the oldest and largest cemetery in Huntsville, spanning 100 acres and containing more than 80,000 burials.

Horror Themed Escape Rooms

This one is for those with more of a thrill-seeking spirit. Escape Rooms can already be adrenaline pumping but combine them with horrifying themes and you have a perfect Halloween.

Visit a Haunted House

In North Alabama we have some AWESOME, GRUESOME, TERRIFYING haunted houses. These are not for the faint of heart. Know your child’s scare-meter and abide by the age recommendations.

Go to a Corn Maze or Zombie Paintball

These are a very popular activities, but ideal for older teens. Luckily North Alabama has several options to enjoy!

Get Witchy

Have a teen that wants to get dressed up? There’s several opportunities to grab your favorite witchy friends! Get a group together for one of the local witches rides or head to Lowe Mill for their Witches Day.

Roller Skating with Costumes

Have your tween or teen dress up and go roller skating with a group of friends. Insanity Complex is hosting Madison’s INSANE Nightmare on Skate Street. They are having a costume contest for ages 13 & over, pie eating contest, and other fun events while Roller Skating!

Host a Horror Flick Sleepover

Each member of the family pick a few of their favorite horror movies, put on the popcorn, and enjoy the comforts of home with a movie marathon. To turn up the spooky theme, look to Pinterest for Halloween-themed recipes for snacks, mocktails and more. Even better, make them with your tween or teen to provide added Halloween family time. If there is any downtime between all the startling, screeching and hiding under the blankets (and if parent approved), they could try their hand at tarot card readings (Amazon has several different styles).

Have a Backyard Campout

Fall is the perfect time for camping! No need to head to a campsite. Just set up a tent (if you have one), grab some sleeping bags and flashlights, and head outside. Be sure to bring some Halloween inspired treats, tell ghost stories, watch a scary movie on your tablet or mobile device, and sleep under the stars!

Just because our tweens and/or teens have outgrown trick-or-treating does not mean they can’t have an absolute blast celebrating Halloween!

Do you know about a Halloween event for teens that we missed? We’d love to add it, just send us a note at [email protected] and be sure to include the information listed here (e.g. Date/Time, Cost, URL, Location).
