HUntsvile Botanical Garden Galaxy of Lights 2020

Many, many years ago I had my heart broken when a house in a prominent Huntsville neighborhood stopped displaying their amazing Christmas tree. It was bathed in red lights, situated behind an elegant cut glass front door, and stood tall in their foyer. It was truly magical, and I made a point of going to see that tree every year during our annual “holiday light drive”.

The only thing that could have ever been magical enough to replace that holiday show of glittery red goodness is the Huntsville Botanical Garden’s annual Galaxy of Lights. This Huntsville tradition includes a twinkling icicle forest, dancing nursery rhyme characters, and the jolly old man himself, soaring over the gardens!

These large, artfully crafted displays are sure to bring holiday delight to the whole family. No more fretting over what to do with the in-laws. Children are delighted by these displays and the glittering lights are sure to warm your adult heart. You know the fuzzy feeling – this will get you there!

Parent Pro-Tips: If you plan ahead, have the kids bathed and in pajamas before you set out for the Garden. Pack a thermos of hot cocoa, find some Christmas tunes on the radio, and have a fun car-eoke caroling session as you wait in the carline to get into the light displays. Not counting waiting to get in, it takes about 30-45 minutes to drive through the Galaxy of Lights, depending on traffic.

This amazing holiday light extravaganza is consistently recognized as a Southeast Tourism Top 20 event of the year – don’t miss it! The best part is it’s a little different each year. My family has fun looking for their favorite light scenes from the past years and trying to find the new ones.
