Wanted: Diaper Showers for the Great Diaper Drive!

diaper drive

Updated for 2018

Way back in 2013, Rocket City Mom started a community initiative we called The Great Diaper Drive. The idea was to get together with a bunch of our friends, throw a party, and collect diapers for local babies in need. Now it’s over hundreds of thousands of diapers & wipes later and we’re getting ready for the 6th year of the Great Diaper Drive!

Our goal this year is to collect at least 200,000 diapers by October 18th.

We can’t do it without your help, and we have a favor to ask.

Can You Throw a Diaper Shower?

That’s right. We’re asking all the people we work with and all the parents that visit this website regularly to help us collect diapers now through October 19th.

WHO Can Host a Diaper Shower?

  • Your Department at work
  • Your Small Business
  • MOMS Groups
  • Sunday School Classes
  • Scout Groups
  • Neighborhood HOAs
  • Theatre Groups
  • Sports Teams
  • Student Clubs
  • Playgroups
  • Second Baby Showers
  • Birthday Parties
  • Your Immediate Family
How Businesses Are Helping

Want to see how a few local organizations are throwing a diaper shower?

The Huntsville Botanical Garden is hosting a Garden Give Back Day in support of the Great Diaper Drive on Friday, October 5th. Each person who brings a package of diapers or wipes gets free admission to The Garden!

Rocket Republic Brewing Company is hosting “Diapers & Drafts” October 11, and you’re invited! This kid-friendly taproom will be collecting diapers & wipes from thirsty visitors, and are even providing a special beer named for the occasion! RCM will be there for some games & activities.

Morris Lilienthal knew he wanted his law firm at Martinson Martinson & Beason, P.C. to participate in the Great Diaper Drive last year, and collected diapers from co-workers and clients at his office in downtown Huntsville. The firm included info about the drive in their email newsletter and on social media to help spread the word.

How YOU Can Host a Diaper Shower

There are a thousand different ways to do it, but here are some ideas to get you started! We’ve even got a Diaper Shower Party Kit that includes blank shower invitations and posters to help you invite all your friends! Be sure to check out our Great Diaper Drive Pinterest board for more fun shower things.

Smells Like Team Spirit
Divide your group into teams named after their favorite sports teams. See who can collect the most diapers in your team’s name! Alabama vs Auburn, Army vs Navy, Tennessee vs Vandy… Who’s team will reign supreme by October 19th in the Great Diaper Bowl?

Family Dinner Shower
Do you get together for Sunday Suppers or regular family dinners with aunts, uncles, and grandparents? Ask them to bring a pack of diapers or wipes to dinner and see how tall you can make your family’s diaper tower!

Sunday School or Scout Shower
Have a competition to see how many diapers and wipes your church group or Scout Troop can collect from now until October 19th. The winning group gets a pizza party!

Playgroup Picnic at the Park
Invite your playgroup to have a picnic in the park and ask them to bring all the extra diapers your baby has grown out of this year. We do accept individual and open packs of diapers as donations! We also accept Pullups and Swimmies.

Diaper Blitz Day Details

After you’ve thrown a shower and collected tons of diapers, we want to recognize your hard work! Deliver them all on Diaper Blitz Day Thursday, October 19th. WHNT will be doing a live remote all day at the Walmart Supercenter in Madison, and we’ll be getting the final count for all diapers collected from 6AM – 6PM.

For families without enough money, running out of diapers is more than an inconvenience. Everyone knows that dirty diapers lead to painful rashes and, if untreated, serious infections, even hospitalization. Sick and hurting babies cry. Crying babies create stress, and added stress can lead to situations of domestic abuse and neglect. If all of that can be avoided with a clean diaper, it’s up to us to build and empower our Villages to provide them.

[themify_box icon=”announcement” color=”lavender”]TELL US ABOUT IT! If your group is hosting a shower or collecting diapers, let us know! We’d love to add you to our list of participating community organizations and businesses that are helping out with this worthy cause. Remember, all proceeds & diapers collected benefit babies in North Alabama communities.[/themify_box]
