Randolph’s Under the Christmas Tree is back to kick off the 2021 holiday season November 5-7

Randolph's Under the Christmas Tree Gingerbread House

Some might say that the holiday season starts the minute the trick or treaters go to bed on October 31, others will argue it isn’t truly time for tinsel until Black Friday, but Huntsvillians know that the REAL kick-off for the holidays is Randolph School’s Under the Christmas Tree market at the VBC! This three-day holiday shopping marketplace is filled with speciality merchants from around the southeast including many local shops and the wares are delightful. For a Christmas aficionado there is no better place to find everything you need to decorate your home or gift your friends.

These magical lanterns are just one of many unique gifts you find at Under the Christmas Tree Market.

Not Just Shopping

While you come for the shopping and unique gift ideas there is so much more to do for mom, dad, and the kids. Why not consider kicking off your shopping on Friday morning with mimosas? That’s right, we said mimosas 🙂 With a $20 ticket (purchased in advance and held at the entrance to the market) you can be one of the first to see the wares and enjoy a weekend pass, refreshments, and special discounts from most vendors.

Looking for something for the kids? There are plenty of options for family fun including the perennial favorite Gingerbread Dreams. This year there will be four sessions: one on Friday, two on Saturday, and one on Sunday. The cost is $20 per person and includes a Market Day pass and a keepsake gingerbread house. Due to their popularity, we advise booking these ASAP.

Of course, that’s not the only thing on the agenda for kids. If you’ve got a little artist they’ll love the Holiday Art sessions with Mrs. Vinchenza Sweet, Randolph’s own Middle School Art teacher. She’ll instruct them on how to make their own project that will make the perfect keepsake or gift for the grandparents. These sessions are also $20 and include one Market Day pass.

Finally, what holiday event would be complete without a visit from Santa? Children of all ages (but especially those of a certain age) will enjoy Storytime With Santa. This special reading of The Night Before Christmas on Saturday morning from 9:30-10AM is $10 and includes one child, one adult, and a book! Children under 7 must be accompanied by a parent.

Note: For the safety and comfort of all, special event participants should be masked and will be seated at least 3’ from others during activities.

Can’t Make It? No Problem

If you can’t attend the decorating parties, purchase a Gingerbread House kit, pick it up at the market, and take it home. The kit comes festively wrapped with a wooden house, icing, candy, and all you need to create a perfect holiday treat. Kits can be picked up at the market Will Call Desk during shopping hours or at the Randolph House (1003 Drake Avenue, Huntsville, AL) on Monday, November 8 or Tuesday, November 9 between the hours of 8AM – 4PM.

All for a Great Cause

Under the Christmas Tree is Randolph School’s largest special event fundraiser and contributes more than $100,000 to Randolph’s Tailored Tuition program, which is designed to offset the cost of tuition for families. With Tailored Tuition, a family’s cost is based on a sliding scale from 25 to 100 percent of tuition. Applicants have the option to submit information to a confidential third-party system for a thorough financial assessment. Following that analysis, a tuition recommendation is made and reviewed by Randolph’s Tailored Tuition Team. The goal of Randolph’s Tailored Tuition program is to attract quality students, supportive families, and put the possibility of affording a Randolph education within reach.

“Affordability is one of the most important conversations that we have with families. As an independent school, if Randolph is the educational choice that is the best fit – in terms of academic and college preparation, arts involvement, athletics opportunities, our traditions, and student experiences – we don’t want financial concerns to deter great students and families from joining our amazing school community.” – Adam Bernick, Director of Institutional Advancement
