Did you know that professionals come from all over the world to learn how to conduct forensic interviews with children at the National Children’s Advocacy Center Training Center in Huntsville?
The NCAC is seeking children, ages 5 – 12, for assistance with their Forensic Interviewing Training program in 2019.
About the Forensic Interviewing Training Program
For this program, Children are needed to participate in a 10 minute interview conversation, non-trauma related. Children are ‘interviewed’ at our Training Center in Huntsville as a practicum exercise by the trainee. The conversation includes asking the children to identify a topic of interest (current sport or activity, birthday party, or school activity) to discuss and the trainee practices asking open-ended questions to encourage the child to give a narrative answer. These topics gives trainees something to focus on while they practice the skills they have learned, i.e. how to develop rapport with children, how to assess developmental stages, and how to ask different styles or types of questions. Children consider this to be a fun activity and often ask if they can come back.
But Why Should MY Child Participate?
Participating children will be performing a valuable community service and are compensated $20 for their participation. The trainings are currently held on weekdays during the hours of 9:30 a.m.-3:00 p.m., so this activity may be best suited for home-school learners.
This training exercise will take place at the NCAC Training Center, which is located at the back of our Pratt Avenue campus facing Dallas Street.
