Candlelight Christmas at Burritt On the Mountain

Candlelight and Christmas share a special place in my heart and I know I’m not the only one. For me, it started with a move half-way across the country right after graduating from college. I was living in an apartment in an old house in the Historic Oakwood district of Raleigh, NC, and had to work over the holiday. For the first time ever, I wasn’t going to be spending Christmas with my family and it made me terribly homesick. The only thing that made it better was the walk I would take each day through my neighborhood. Much like the Twickenham district here in Huntsville, many of the old homes were grandly decorated for the holidays with candlelight in the windows. Since that time, simple candlelight decorations have always been my favorite holiday window dressing.

So, you can imagine how excited I am to see the beautiful landscape of Burritt on the Mountain all gussied up with more than 600 candles illuminating the ground. You and your entire family can wander throughout the park listening to various musical groups performing a variety of holiday classics. There will also be opportunities to see time-honored handicrafts and Christmas traditions demonstrated throughout the historic houses.

Along with hands-on activities for the children there is a giant gingerbread house so don’t forget your camera. The main attraction for me might be the candlelight, but I’m guessing your little ones will want a minute on Kris Kringle’s lap and the chance to see actual chestnuts roasting. Whatever your favorite holiday tradition, you’ll find it at Kris Kringle’s Candlelight Christmas.
