On the third day of giveaways Rocket City Mom gave to you – LIGHTS. Galaxy of Lights at Huntsville Botanical Garden is a true Huntsville Holiday tradition and if you are anywhere close to North Alabama during the season and you miss it, you WILL regret it. What started 18 years ago as 25 scenes has now expanded to 170 scenes over half of which are animated! The light show and its operation (construction, admissions, traffic, etc.) is run in its entirety by volunteers making this special event all the more special.
What better way to get in the holiday spirit than by taking a drive, walk, or jog through magical seasonal light displays? Maybe taking that drive, walk, or jog for FREE! Get details on how below and be sure to tell your friends. Sharing is caring.
Are you a complete newbie to Galaxy of Lights? Then be sure to read our write-up about Driving Nights (updated with this year’s info). Driving Nights always begin on Thanksgiving and run through December 31st. Cost is $20 per car and members can purchase a pass in advance (at Gift Shoppe) for $15.
Considering walking instead of, or in addition to, driving this year? (You should). Then head on over to my article all about Walking Nights and see what to expect and make sure you get my “mom tips” about what to bring and what you might want to skip to make sure your whole family has a blast. Walking Nights begin a week from today on November 15!
The annual Galaxy of Lights 5K run has long been a favorite of local runners and this year the kids can get in on the action with the very first Galaxy of Lights Fun Run! Held on Tuesday, December 3, the whole family can run, jog, skip or walk the 1.7 mile trail. Santa will be present and handing out candy canes and posing for photos. Registration fees are Adults $25, 10 and under $15, and 3 and under are free. Long sleeve T-shirts will be available for all registered participants. Get more information and register here.

Rocket City Mom is a website started in 2010 by a "New to Huntsville" mom who was searching for an information hub of all things family/parenting related for Huntsville. When she didn't find it. She created it. The site now boasts two owners, a managing editor, a dedicated calendar guru, and more than a dozen local parent contributors that help to make the site the #1 resource for all things family in Huntsville and North Alabama.
