This program is offered at 10:30am and 1:00pm on Saturday, July 13. The entire program takes approximately 1 hour and 45 minutes. Visitors may choose to do all the activities or a portion of them. This activity is suitable for children and adults.
The Underground Railroad had no tracks or train cars, but moved thousands of slaves from the South to freedom. Begin with a short introduction about slavery and the Underground Railroad, and then follow the clues from one “safe” house to the next in our simulation. Hear the music from this era and learn its significance as you create a craft that will remind you of the methods these courageous individuals used to escape slavery and build new lives for themselves. Learn some of the exciting stories of the brave women and men who risked their lives to achieve freedom for themselves and for others. Join us to remember the courage and fortitude of escaping African American slaves and the dedicated people who helped them on their journey to freedom.
This event is included with regular admission and is free for members!
