Monarch Tag and Release

September 24 @ 10:00 AM - 11:00 AM

|Recurring Event (See all)

One event on September 24, 2022 at 11:30 AM

$8 – $25

Each year, monarch butterflies take an incredible journey from Canada to Mexico as they seek warmer temperatures to roost over the winter months. These seemingly delicate creatures fly feverishly on pre-determined migration paths, making quick stops along the way. As part of their journey, monarchs migrate through Huntsville, Alabama, from September through mid-October.

The Huntsville Botanical Garden will be “tagging” 100 monarch butterflies (putting a tiny sticker on their dorsal wings) and then releasing them into the Garden, and they need your help! Join for a presentation about monarchs and their migration, followed by a hands-on tagging of the butterflies. They will even share how you can track the butterflies you tag to see if they make it to Mexico!

When: September 24 | 10 & 11:30 AM
