The International Society of Huntsville and the University of Alabama in Huntsville present the 7th Annual International Festival of North Alabama Saturday, September 17, at the UAH Fitness Center. The 7th Annual iFest is a free, daylong event that celebrates the diverse cultures in our community through country displays and international performances. The festival
features children’s activities from different regions of the world, food trucks with international cuisine, and open air markets.
“The Annual International Festival of North Alabama continues to stand as a testimony to the
importance of the global presence which has helped to shape the community into a vibrant place
of growth and development,” says Belinda Ong, iFest Chair. “Everyone is invited to come out
and to learn about the world and to experience North Alabama’s diversity first-hand.”
The 7th Annual iFest kicks off with a ribbon cutting and Parade of Nations at 9:30 a.m. Saturday
morning. Spotlight countries, Poland and Mexico, will be among twenty-seven countries represented at
this year’s iFest. Each country will host a display featuring cultural artifacts, flags, travel and historic
literature, as well as crafts, native apparel and educational materials. Free children’s activities will be
available throughout the day.
Throughout the day, the festival will feature live music and global performances, from folk dance to
traditional instrumentals and song to martial arts. The 7th Annual iFest will feature a performance by the
Fitness Arts Center Irish Dancers performing traditional and modern Irish Step Dancing through intricate
choreography, traditional footwork, and modern music.
A variety of food vendors will be on hand offering delicacies from Eastern European Cuisine to Pizza.
Food trucks, Neon Lilly, Pearl Asian Cuisine, Bad News BBQ, Brain Freeze Ice Cream, Tim’s Cajun
Kitchen, and Joe’s World Famous Pizza,will be on site for the festival.
The iFest’s popular International Open Air Market features more than 16 vendors displaying international
or internationally inspired merchandise, as well as goods and services in the form of crafts, travel
information, and cultural experiences available in the area.
