Big Spring Memorial Park in downtown Athens offers a large pond that is framed in decorative concrete, which makes it safer for kids who like to run around. There are plenty of trees, making it easy to find shady areas while feeding the ducks.

It’s a beautiful park with lots of grass, benches, and a bench swing and the pond has two large fountains in the middle. The property also includes a small playground, a large pavilion with restrooms, and tennis courts.

Don’t forget to bring bread to feed the ducks!

The pavilion is very nice and would be perfect for birthday parties or family reunions! It is covered and has 12 picnic tables. There is also a medium size parking lot that runs the length of the park, so it’s easy to park close and not have far to walk.

This park offers beauty and shade with the fun of feeding the ducks! The playground is very small, and other than two baby swings, the equipment is built for older children and is not very toddler friendly. This wasn’t a problem for our toddlers since they wanted to run around in the grass and chase the ducks anyways.

The covered pavilion is perfect for large gatherings.

In December, Big Spring Park is decked out with colorful Christmas Trees as part of the annual Athens North Pole Stroll. In the Summer, there is sometimes live music and special events hosted by the city. Pavilions can be rented for $30 a day, and there are also three tennis courts on the park grounds.
