Eli’s Block Party & Superhero Day

We love this event and it is for a great cause that supports the Childhood Cancer Foundation. They have over 30 superheroes that come and they also have a section dedicated to honoring our real life heroes featuring law enforcement, military serviceperson, utility workers, farmers, firefighters, and will be honoring some first responders for their service during 9/11.

Summer Bash with ELHS Quarterback Club

Starts Friday night at 7:30pm with barrel races. Saturday at 7pm includes  the main event with saddle bronc, barrel races, tie down roping, pole bending, bull riding and more. You can also catch a 10am matinee performance on Sunday.

Battle of Sulphur Creek Trestle Commemoration

Richard Martin Rails to Trail (Railroad Street in Elkmont)

Historians will be at the site to tell the story of the battle and men who fought in it to mark the 157th anniversary. Hike or bike south from downtown Elkmont for 1.2 miles or 2.2 miles north from the Hays Mill Parking lot. Presentations every half hour. Go outside to enjoy nature, and get a history lesson at the actual site of the battle. Our family loves this trail!

2021 Fiddlers Convention

$15 per adult per night Friday and Saturday, or $20 for a weekend pass; Children under 12 are free with a paid adult|

This convention uses the proceeds to fund scholarships and other Athens State University projects. Over 200 musicians come out to compete for the prizes which add up to around $19,000. It is so fun to listen and watch, visit the food trucks, and browse over 150 booths of vendors. Convention guests also have a chance to win some cash from Bank Independent so be sure to stop by and enter to win. The Volume Five concert Thursday is FREE!

Every first Saturday families everywhere are encouraged to get outside and visit the local parks, hike one of the many trails, splash in the waterways, and explore green spaces. There are so many places just waiting for you to have an amazing family adventure, for free!

7th Annual Athens Sports-Plex Charity Car Show
October 9 from 9AM – 2PM

The proceeds benefit the Eli Williams block party for the Childhood Cancer Foundation. There will be cash prizes every half hour, door prizes, music by DJ David Sharp, food and drinks at the baseball complex, and kids can play at the Dug Out playground. Bathrooms are available at this event.

Spend your weekend enjoying Native American culture. They will have special performances by Jack “Crazy Flute” Holland and Malia’s Hula Halau. Authentic foods will be available to try. On Saturday they will have a Chicken Dance special. There will be a tipis set up for anyone who would like to go inside or take pictures in front of it. Bring the family along with your chairs!

With a new theme each week, you will have a blast going to storytime! This week we went on a bear hunt, listened to Chicka Chicka Boom Boom, as well as decorated and colored our own ABC tree! My 2 year old loved going and cannot wait to go back next week.
