Alabama Constitution Village

The neat thing about Alabama Constitution Village is that it is the recreation of the city of Huntsville as it was in the early 1800’s — the buildings have been rebuilt on their original foundations! The history there is geared toward the curriculum of fourth-grade Social Studies here in Alabama. A lot of school groups tour the Village but individuals and families are also welcome. And when you step through the doors of the Alabama Constitution Village, you take a step back in time, complete with workers in character and dressed in historic costumes.

The property includes a printing shop, post office, black smith, sherriff’s house, outside dairy, surveyer’s shop, slave quarters, woodworking shop, garden, and Huntsville’s first library. The buildings are filled with 19th-century furnishing and kids will enjoy all the hands-on activities offered. There is also a nice gift shop full of Huntsville-themed goodies.

Hours & Admission

It’s open Monday through Saturday during the warm months, and Tuesday through Saturday in the Fall. In November and December, hours are adjusted for Santa’s Village, and it’s closed in January and February. You’ll want to dress according to the weather because most of the tour is outdoors. Individual admission is $12 for adults, $10 for Seniors and Youth, and $5 for toddlers. Since this museum is a part of the Earlyworks Family of Museums in Huntsville, group rates are available as well as a special rate if you purchase admission to Alabama Constitution Village, Early Works Museum, and The Huntsville Depot Museum. See their website for more information.
