USSRC Goes “Above & Beyond” with Their Latest Exhibit

Space & Rocket Center

I don’t know about you but my kids LOVE airplanes. They love riding on them, looking at them, playing with them and spotting them in the sky. I’m a mom to five kids, ranging from nine years to three months old and they all (well, the baby slept the whole time) absolutely loved the new Above & Beyond exhibit at the U.S. Space & Rocket Center.

When you walk in, you are greeted with soft music, low ambient lighting and cool space colors. There are LOTS of interactive displays that encourage touching and physically interacting with the concepts being taught at that station.

This exhibit was PERFECT for my family. When we visit places, it can be hard sometimes. Normally, there are places that appeal to the younger ones, but are not interesting to the older ones. And then there are places that the older ones love, but typically, the younger ones have nothing to do. That was NOT the case here!

All of my kids were all engaged in the Above & Beyond exhibit, and the icing on the cake was that it is wonderfully educational on top of it. There was a fantastic variety of things that my three year-old could interact with, even though she didn’t necessarily understand all of the information or concepts. The environment is so soothing, that my infant slept the entire time we were there.

The “Full Throttle” activity was a huge favorite. Each of my kids got to design their own airplane! They then were given a code to plug in, and then got to sit in a simulator, and actually fly the exact airplane they had just designed. I am glad it wasn’t super busy, because they were able to spend quite a lot of time in that area. The attendants there were very knowledgeable and answered all of the kids questions with a smile.

Parent Pro-Tip: As usual, the USSRC is very stroller friendly but they do not have a bathroom in the general area where this display is, so have your kids go on the way in. Someone in my crew had to go in the middle and the rest of the kids were really “reluctant” to break away for a potty stop.

Teachers and students even have Educator Guides before they visit on field trips!

Needless to say, we will be going back at least a few more times before the exhibit goes back on the road March of 2018.
