Summer is all about relaxing and enjoying life and there is nothing quite like live music to help you do just that. Luckily for us, the Tennessee Valley has a ton of options and almost all of them are free.

Whatever kind of music and atmosphere you’re looking for you are likely to find it in this collection of summer concerts. Get our your calendar, search for your favorite local performers (or discover some new ones) and head out to catch a few fireflies and listen to some awesome grooves.

Concerts in the Park

Each Monday night in the summer months downtown Huntsville comes alive with music during Concerts In the Park. This 11-week free series is a co-production of The Arts Council and the City of Huntsville’s Department of Recreation Services and features a wide variety of sounds from some of the area’s most well-known musicians.

concertsSponsored by the City of Decatur Parks and Recreation Department, this concert series on the banks of the Tennessee River runs from 6-8PM. These FREE concerts offer a wide variety of musical styles in a family-friendly setting. NOTE: No concert on Memorial Day or on Monday, July 2. Guests are invited to bring blankets, lawn chairs and picnic baskets. Per Decatur City Ordinance, alcohol is not permitted in the park and pets must be leashed according to City laws.  For more information call 256-341-4818.

While not a concert per se, there is lots of free music in addition to an arts marketplace and vendors who offer locally grown produce, home baked goods, and other fine, handcrafted products. If you’re looking for something fun and free to do on a Thursday night (4:30-8:30 PM), this makes a great event and you never know what you might find while you stroll. Plus, you’re supporting local artists and business people and you can always grab a quick bite to eat at one of the downtown restaurants! Check their Facebook page for up-to-date information about this event. NEW IN 2014: Now there will be a special section of the stroll set aside just for old-fashioned kids fun including hula hoops, cake walks and more!

citylights_burrittBurritt on the Mountain sets a beautiful stage for this summer concert series and while it isn’t free, it is priceless and many would argue it’s a can’t miss family event, at least once each summer. So pick your favorite musical act, pack a picnic, and go visit this “Jewel on the Mountain” for a unique musical experience.

Downtown Huntsville Inc. continues its quest to bring fun (and therefore people) to downtown with this summer series of free music. Thursdays “Jam Session on the Square” will feature live music on Westside Square from 5-7 PM June-August. Then on the second Saturday of those months from 6-9PM you can enjoy music, a new light display and street food in the park as part of their “Grotto Lights Concert Series.”

Summer is here. You can feel it in the warmth of the sun, you can see it with the sights of little league games being played into the afternoon, and now the Village of Providence wants to help you hear the sounds of summer with their 2014 Concerts in Providence Park series. The Concerts in Providence Park series will offer a wide variety of music, reaching out to a range of musical tastes. Many Village of Providence dining establishments will be offering special services such as delivery to guests seated in Providence Park. Village shops will also keep their doors open to people who prefer to shop while listening to the live music.
