It’s going to be a beautiful Fall weekend, with tons of fun & free activities to do with your family!
We’ve rounded up our favorite things to do with kids in Huntsville that won’t break your wallet and listed them below. Be sure to also look through our Event Calendar to see the complete list of activities going on on any given day of the week.
Now, I know some of you might not be ready to hear about it yet, but Christmas and the winter holidays are practically here. If you want to accept that, and be proactive about planning this year, we put together our Holiday Happenings Guide just for you. But if you can’t wrap your head around it right now, I totally get it. The Guide will be there when you’re ready!
Happy Veteran’s Day!
Saturday – Monday – all FREE
What a wonderful weekend to honor our veterans! There are a few different places you can go to do that publicly this year…
Athens Veteran’s Day Parade: Saturday at 11AM (map)
Honor our veterans by lining the streets of Athens and waving as the parade moves through town. Prizes will be awarded for best overall and most patriotic entry. Floats and entries will line up at Athens High School and proceed down Hobbs Street. Grand Marshalls this year will be honoring Ms. Alice Rogers, WWII Cadet Nurse; Ms. Carmen Montgomery, WWII Army Nurse Corps and Ms. Louise Steele of DAR.
Veteran’s Day Concert: On Sunday, the First Baptist Church in downtown Huntsville hosts a Veterans Day Weekend Concert beginning at 5pm. The performance features a 50-piece ensemble, including the FBC Big Ban and a chorus of musicians from across the state called the Alabama Singing Women. This concert is open to the public.
Huntsville Veteran’s Day Parade & Patriot’s Mocaic: Monday at 11AM (map)
WAAY31 sponsors the parade with this year’s theme being “Courage, Sacrifice, and Duty – We Honor Those Who Serve”. Adults and kids alike will love seeing the marching bands and honoring the brave local men and women who serve our country. After the parade, the public is invited to the Huntsville Depot Museum to attend the unveiling of the new Patriot’s Mosaic, an exhibit that includes nearly 1,300 images of veterans in an impressive 15×15 foot photo mosaic.
