Happy almost-weekend, Rocket City Friends!

Huntsville Free Comic Book DayI am so excited about all the fun things happening in the next three days – not to mention this Saturday is Free Comic Book Day here in town and it is SUPER FUN. I hope your superhero capes are freshly washed and ready to go! (What am I saying? Parents wear invisible superhero capes EVERY DAY.)

As always, we’re your original go-to place for all the free/cheap, family-friendly events happening in Huntsville and Madison County, and we have even more of them over on our full Event Calendar so be sure to take a look there too.

WERU_#1Family Fun Night on Friday

Friday from 5:30pm-9pm
Cost: FREE, online RSVP requested
Huntsville Public Library (map)

Come to a FREE after hours event at the Main Library Downtown. Family Fun Night is for all ages! There will be a family friendly movie playing in the auditorium (7:15pm-9pm), music-themed story time and crafts for kids in the Youth Services area (6:30pm-7pm), and board games for all ages. Attendees are welcome to bring their own board games to share with new friends.To RSVP, click HERE.

WERU_#2LEGO Movie in the Garden

Friday at 7PM
Cost: $5 per person, or $20 per family
Huntsville Botanical Garden (map)

Bring the family to the Garden to enjoy The LEGO Movie at the outdoor Amphitheater. Admission even includes 1 bag of popcorn; a concession stand will be on site if you’re a bit more peckish. A very special VIP will be there to meet & greet the kids… Emmet himself and it will be AWESOME! Purchase tickets online in advance to be sure they don’t sell out.

Saturday from 10AM-2PM

Sci-Quest Hands On Science Center (map)

It’s time for the annual Hands-on Trucks event! Let your kids get behind the wheel and explore a variety of their favorite vehicles and meet the men and women who drive the trucks. From ice cream trucks to fire engines, Sci-Quest assembles a variety of vehicles for this day of fun. Sci-Quest partners with local organizations to bring different vehicles for children to get a unique, close up look and hands-on experience!

WERU_#4The Last Opus Tadpole of Spring

Saturday from 10:15 – 11:15 AM
Cost: FREE

What sound does a French horn make? What is the difference between a viola and a violin? How many strings are on a harp? Children and their families have fun discovering the answers to these musical questions and more during twenty-minute Opus Tadpole presentations, entertaining and interactive ways for our youngest listeners to learn about the instruments of the orchestra. Grownups may also learn a thing or two! Opus Tadpole sessions are held prior to Classical Series final rehearsals – this is the last session of the Spring HSO season!

WERU_#5Go Take a Hike

Sunday from 2-4:30 PM

Heritage Elementary Campus (map)

Come see Madison’s beautiful Bradford Creek Greenway with a Land Trust guide. If woods hiking isn’t for you (snakes! ticks!) this paved greenway is the perfect fit. Friendly dogs on leads are welcome. Hikes are free to the public, but donations to help preserve greenspace are gratefully accepted. Suggested hiking equipment: long pants, comfortable shoes with good tread & bottled water. Water, trail snacks, and camera. In case of rain, hikes will be cancelled. Meet at the north end of the Heritage Elementary campus on Madison’s County Line Road.
