Weekend Roundup March 21-24

You’re almost there… if you sniff the air you can probably get a whiff of Spring Break right around the corner! Our list of Spring Break Camps can help you plan how to keep the kids busy and entertained. In the meantime, we’ve created our weekly list of fun & free/cheap things to do around Huntsville over the next three days.

1. Sleeping Beauty Sneak Peek Storytime

Thursday at 6:30PM
Join the Downtown Huntsville Library’s Pajamatime Storytime group for a very special preview of Alabama Youth Ballet’s Sleeping Beauty. Dancers will show off costumes, talk about the story, and show some of the beautiful ballet moves from the production. Free and open to the public.

2. EGGStravaganza in Decatur

Saturday from 10:00AM – 2:00PM
Potentially the state of Alabama’s largest Easter egg hunt! 5,000 eggs will be dropped from atop Decatur Fire Department’s extended ladder truck – totaling 45,000 eggs for kids to retrieve at Ingalls Pavilion in Decatur. The Easter Bunny will be on hand, as well as a petting zoo, games, door prizes, and an art contest. For more information contact Kelly at (256) 341-4958. Free and open to the public – bring your own baskets!

3. Lowe’s Family Workshop

Saturday from 10:00AM – 11:00PM
Today’s Lowe’s Build and Grow kit is all about DreamWorks Animation’s new movie, The Crood’s. You and your kids can build an awesome Piranhakeet Chomper inspired by the flick, and receive a free apron, goggles, patch, and more! Free and open to the public, but pre-registration required. 4. Make an Egg Mosaic

Saturday from 10:00AM – Noon
Let your kids explore their creativity while you shop at the new Michael’s Kid’s Club programs! Only $2 per child reserves 30 minutes for your creative kid. Sessions starting every half hour from 10AM – 11:30AM. Call your local store for more info – University Drive (256-971-0140); Airport Road (256-885-1779).

5. Feel like a Giant!

Saturday from 10:00AM – 2:00PM
Remember that movie, Honey, I Shrunk the Kids? Well, Huntsville Botanical Garden’s Grand Opening of their new outdoor interactive exhibit, “Giant Garden. Little Me.” is here! Don’t miss the Ginormous Grass Blades or Super-sized Sandbox. You definitely can’t overlook the Big Dog Dog House or the King-sized Checkers. And there’s so much more! There will be games, activities, refreshments, and music by Steve from Metropolitan DJ. There will be plenty of fun and exploring in their BIG backyard along with other parts of the Garden. The new dinosaur-themed puppet show from the Huntsville-Madison County Public Library will debut at noon! Get there early for a good seat! Garden members free, non-member admission applies. *In case of inclement weather, all events will occur in the Boeing Classroom inside the Visitor’s Center.
