Weekend Roundup February 19-22

Between the weather and the school delays it’s been a hectic week here in Huntsville. If you’re like me you’re already thinking ahead to the weekend!

Lucky for you there is no shortage of free, family-friendly fun to be had in Huntsville and, as always, we’re here to list all our favorites below. Be sure to check out our complete Event Calendar to find even more events.

One of those that isn’t free but definitely fun is the opening weekend of Fantasy Playhouse’s Aesop’s Foibles at the VBC this weekend. Aesop’s fables have never been presented in a more hilarious and clever format, sure to entertain audiences of all ages. If you’re looking for a fun show indoors, take your little one to see it!

A Spring Festival

Celebrate the arrival of Spring in the traditions of Eastern European and Central Asian countries at the Maslenitsa Spring Festival promoting peace and understanding between people and nations. Families from the Madison/Huntsville community as well as from neighboring cities and states are welcome! This festival is designed to be entertaining and educational in a very interactive way for all members of the family. Food, music, art, and interactive demos & displays from 15 countries are all part of today’s festival!

Rocket City WeatherFest

Are you fascinated by the weather? Are you or your kids curious about why tornadoes occur or how lightning is created? Do you want to become a meteorologist? Come ask your questions and find your answers at Rocket City Weather Fest! Sit in weather research vehicles, tour SWIRLL (the new weather research facility), attend Severe Weather 101, witness a weather balloon launch, and participate in hands-on demonstrations and kids’ crafts. This is always a fun event that makes weather science fun for kids.

Drop In & Get Creative

You and your family can explore the artwork in HMA’s “Rembrandt, Rubens and Gainsborough and the Golden Age of Painting in Europe” exhibition, produce a hat and dress in period capes to take your own photo behind a “Golden Age” frame. I mean, HOW FUN IS THAT? Drop In & Create is a free kid-friendly monthly program and always a quality weekend activity. Recommended for children ages 3 and up. Young Inventor’s Day

Saturday from 2-4 PM

Mensa Kids Trek presents the annual Young Inventors Day in the library’s Auditorium. Parents and friends are welcome to assist young inventors in their planning, diagramming, and making prototypes of their inventions. Skate with the Havoc

Sunday from 2-4 PM
Cost: $7, $5 if you wear a Havoc jersey

Today’s your chance to hit the ice with the home team – skate with the members of the Huntsville Havoc! Players will also be signing autographs and taking photos with their littlest fans. Who knows – Chaos and Ruckus might make an appearance too! More details on their Facebook Page.
