Weekend Roundup August 21-23

It looks like we’re in for a beautiful weekend in Huntsville and Madison County!

Food Truck Rally Downtown

Friday from 5-9 PM

This month’s Street Food Gathering is fun for the whole family and will also feature the live “newgrass” sounds of .45 Surprise for the evening’s entertainment. Over 40 food vendors will be on hand to try, so be sure to bring your appetites and adventurous spirit! You should consider parking in the center of downtown and walking to the festival along the shiny new Gateway Greenway, which links Veterans Memorial Park and Bud Cramer Park. Can’t make it Friday? The Breakfast Food Trucks come out bright & early on Saturday morning.

Laugh It Up

Friday at 7 PM
Cost: $7, kids under 8 free

Comic Science Improv is a north-Alabama-based troupe of actors who perform hilarious sketches based on suggestions given by the audience. Shows are appropriate for all audiences, and consist of a collection of short improv “games” — anything from speaking only in questions to reinterpreting favorite movies — based on suggestions from the audience. (If you’ve ever seen “Whose Line Is It Anyway?” it’s a lot like that.) This is a great thing to do with middle & high schoolers! Tickets are $7 at the door or $6 in advance or $20 for four online; children 8 and under are free.

Rocket City Tailgate Challenge

Saturday from 10AM – 7PM
Cost: FREE admission
VBC South Hall (map)

The day kicks off with live music and the Rocket City Tailgate Challenge Cooking Competition outside – there will be a FREE expo going on inside where you can find anything and everything that you will need to make your football season a success. There’s a kid’s area where the kids can participate in fun football activities, climb on the inflatables and meet the mascots of local teams! Food is available for purchase.

 

Storytime for the Whole Family

Saturday at 10 AM

Parents who can’t make a weekday story hour now have other options! Saturday Family Storytimes takes place on the 2nd and 4th Saturdays of every month in Madison. Ms. Teresa will share a great picture book or two, sing some songs, and guide you through a fun craft.

Help Raising Readers

Parents looking for painless ways to support early reading skills can receive helpful information & resources as well as tricks you can use to support your early or elementary aged readers. This program is hosted by Mocha Moms and will be facilitated by Dr. Jennifer E. Patterson, Literary Specialist. Please RSVP to [email protected].

Do the Robot
