School can be difficult for kids that love art – art programs in many school systems has been reduced, in some cases pretty drastically. Luckily, some local artists are stepping up to offer amazing classes over at Lowe Mill ARTS & Entertainment. From culinary arts to pottery, and everything in-between – your little artist is bound to find a fantastic class at Lowe Mill this Spring!

Chef Will’s Kids Cooking Class

March 13 and 14 from 2:00 PM-3:00 PM.

Chef Will’s Kids classes will take your child on a culinary adventure. Children will learn the valuable life lesson of cooking while having fun. Kitchen etiquette and safety will be taught along with recipe reading, nutrition, and what foods are in season.

Home School Art Class

These educational art classes are designed to encourage artistic expression through a wide variety of creative experiences and use art to quench the thirst of exceptional minds. Art classes provide unique opportunities to learn about art through studio activities, discussion sessions, and visits to other galleries at Lowe Mill A&E. The fee covers four, one hour classes per month.

Kids’ Wheel-Throwing Class

Clay is a wonderful medium to capture and catalyze a child’s creativity. This four-week course meets for an hour each week to cover the basic steps in wheel-throwing. We will spend three weeks throwing pots on the potter’s wheel and one week glazing. Students who want to continue learning are encouraged to take the class more than once to keep building on their skills. The fee includes instruction, tools, clay, glazing, and firing.

Kid’s Comic Book Art Class

Join SuperPowered Studios for our Kids’ Comics Book Art Class. Students will learn the same drawing techniques professionals use to make comic books. This drop-in class meets every Saturday for one hour and all supplies are provided.

Comic Book Art and Illustration Classes

Students of all skill levels can learn comic book, graphic novel, and illustration techniques from two professional comic book artists: Kevin Stokes and Nathan Massengill. This is a fun, low pressure yet challenging class for all skill levels. Students can work at their own pace on individual projects, receive personalized assignments from the instructors by taking one of several SuperPowered Artists Challenges. Students may join classes at any time – just show up! Late arrivals are welcome. Bring drawing materials of your choice or email us for a list of recommended materials.

Kid’s Painting Classes

Carrie Alderfer offers Art Parties and Paint Alongs for kids and teens through out the week. Each class features a different subject to paint. Kids can take a class and paint a steam punk cat one week, and sign up to paint their favorite superhero the next. Carrie also offers classes that paint in styles inspired by famous artists such as George Rodrigue Blue Dog.

Pinhole Camera Class with Eric Schultz

Pinhole photography is a lensless photography technique that uses a simple camera with a tiny aperture, a pinhole, in one side instead of a lens. In this class, students will make their own pinhole camera with a small box about the size of a shoebox (provided) and photographic paper. Students will learn to load the light sensitive paper into the camera then take the camera outside and make an exposure. Afterward they will take their cameras into the darkroom, remove and process the paper, and watch the image develop right before their eyes. Send Mail
