Let Them Play – Hazel Green Playground Project

Hazel Green is a small, unincorporated town with a farm-feel and hometown friendliness. Businesses are slowly moving in & growth is picking up steadily! As new families begin to migrate to the area, it’s evident that the lack of a public playground poses a problem for local families.

Families drive at least 20 minutes away to keep their children happy & healthy at the playground. It’s not a hop-skip-jump event – often playground day becomes a road trip. This poses a challenge, especially with cooped-up kids and rising gas prices.

Jennifer Stocum leads a local diverse group of moms and dads who are taking matters into their own hands. The goal is to raise funds to build a playground for all children, including those who are disabled, in hopes to contribute to developing a more family-friendly community.

Help and support is essential to see this $150,000 project to its completion.

Below are the details, and how you may show your support to this worthy cause.

Handicapped Accessible Playground Location

Billy Hunter Park is in the heart of Hazel Green and is familiar territory for community ball games, recreational sports, and the spot for the popular annual Tractor Pull.

Project Phases
  • Phase I – The Hazel Green Community playground $50,000. A depiction of the Phase I playground
  • Phase II – The Splash Pad and Pavilion are inspired by real mommy logic. The shade and water feature will offer relief for hot Alabama summers.

in it! It will definitely complete our goal of having an amazing place where everybody in the community can come together and be together.” – Jennifer Stocum

The group is working on the Phase II – Splash Pad and Pavilion plans in an effort to have an image of what it will look like completed.
