Nature Summer Camp at Country Day School

[themify_box style=”lavender announcement”]Believe it or not, Summer is upon us, and we are keeping with the spirit of summer and providing a new Summer Camp Spotlight to our RCM Readers!  We are excited to expand our education coverage to include more options for local students and their parents – even during the summer months![/themify_box]

“Turn off the screens!” If you’ve found yourself saying this phrase repeatedly throughout the summer, you might want to consider a summer camp who’s whole purpose is to reconnect your child to nature, facilitated by a school that makes this a priority year-round.

The Country Day School is taking their 2017 summer camp to the next level thanks to the popularity of their Forest School. The demand to replicate parts of that program for kids ages 2-12 was the driving force behind the new Nature Camp, now enrolling for Summer 2017. The resident year-round certified teaching staff runs the camp, so parents can be certain of safe, qualified educators interacting with kids throughout the summer.

The best part? You don’t have to be a student enrolled at CDS to participate in summer Nature Camp – this program is available to all.

What Happens at Nature Camp?

Kids who love to play in the dirt and wade in the creek will feel right at home! There are 21 acres to hike and explore, and certified teachers will lead nature experiments and animal and plant observations. Nature crafts and games are an important part of daily camp activities, as well as fishing and hiking.

Of course, Country Day also includes more standard summer camp activities alongside their nature offerings. Kids will also enjoy swimming at Sherwood pool, skating, soccer, volleyball, individual tutoring, and a little arcade & movie time too.

Dirt, Worms, and a U-Pick Stand

Does your child love to plant seeds and garden? They’ll develop their green thumbs as they tend to the camp garden to care for, harvest, and eat yummy vegetables & fruits the kids grow themselves. Older campers can even participate in a fun Farmer’s Market project to market and sell their produce!
