Awkward Photos and the Internet

When terrible things happen, I have my go-to places on the Internet that lift my spirits when it all starts to seem like too much. They don’t make it go away, they don’t make it better. But they can take my mind off the bad news for a while, even if it’s just for a few minutes. Today I’m sharing one of my favorite things to make me laugh – hilarious and strange Internet portraits.

And if you feel hopeless in the shadow of the Colorado tragedy, there are a few things you can do to help.

  1. Awkward Family Photos

Childhood friends Mike and Doug began this blog after Mike saw an awkward vacation photo hung in his parents’ house. Realizing there were probably plenty of other people out there with their own awkward family images, the two friends decided to create a friendly place where everyone could come together and share their uncomfortable family moments. Thus, Awkward Family Photos was born. Always hilarious, these pics are sure to make you giggle. You can even submit your own!

  2. Celebrity Make Unders

What if Angelina and Brad were normal, everyday people living somewhere in the middle America in the 80’s? Or what if Miley Cyrus was trapped in the days of big hair and Glamour Shots? All this and more can be found at NYC-based artist Danny Evans’s new project, Make Unders on Facebook.Who says knowing Photoshop can’t take you far?

  3. Bad Santas

If you’re feeling you need some Christmas in July, you can’t miss this one. I first discovered my love of terrible Santa photos back when Sketchy Santas was created, but they can be a bit PG-13 rated. I found the Queen of Comedy, Ellen Degeneres does it best, and has a slide show that gets funnier and funnier as you flip through.

  4. 50 Unexplained Black & White Photographs

If you’re a writer, book mark this site for writing prompts. There’s got to be a story behind every snapshot, but I doubt we’ll ever know the true one.
