Jennifer Breuer, Creator of Rocket City Mom
Welcome! My name is Jennifer Breuer and I started this little site in late 2010. When I moved to Huntsville, I didn’t know anyone and I was a stay-at-home mom with an 18-month-old daughter who needed to be entertained. I found myself constantly looking for all kinds of information. Where’s the best place to buy organic baby food ? How do I find a pediatrician? How do I find a playgroup for my child (and me)?
I was on the internet almost everyday and was really surprised that no one had bothered to compile all this information in one place. I kept looking and I never found it so I decided to create it myself. That process took a lot longer than I thought it would, and with a busy toddler to keep track of it’s been difficult at times but always fun.
Because of this site, I’ve had the chance to meet some amazing moms and a lot of interesting people who are helping to make Huntsville a very cool place to raise a family. I have also had a chance to write again (something I haven’t done much of since graduate school) and I am thrilled to get the chance to share that opportunity with other moms as well. If you haven’t already, please check out our contributors’ page and make sure to comment on their articles when you see something you like (or don’t like but please be nice about it).
My goal in building this site was to create a space that parents like me would want to visit regularly and hopefully find useful. I have tried to create a place where people can share useful ideas and knowledge about Huntsville and about parenting.
Finding this site should be like moving in next door to a neighbor whose children are the same age as yours and who knows the “inside scoop” on everything. The best part, I never come over uninvited! Enjoy and please contact me if you have any ideas or suggestions on how to make the site better.
Stephenie Walker, Co-Editor
I’m Stephenie Walker and the other half of Rocket City Mom. The yin to Jennifer’s yang, I’m a Huntsville/Madison County native and mom to two rambunctious boys.
My addiction to community volunteering and my past as a youth services librarian has allowed me to meet and work with tons of great people and places that provide services to local families. Through Rocket City Mom I can do the things I loved most about being a librarian – connecting people with resources they need – with the things I love to do – write, read, research, and spend time with my family. (Throw in some gardening and cooking and I’m happy as a clam.)
Here at RCM we hope to make you laugh, make you think, and make it easy for you to enjoy living in our amazing community. There is always something going on, and we do all the work finding out about it so you don’t have to!
