2014 Farmer’s Market Season Opens This Weekend

The doldrums of winter are pretty much behind us and the clear days of Spring mean the return of  produce season in Alabama! Area farmer’s markets are getting ready to welcome hungry families all over Huntsville & Madison County, and the first weekly one of the season opens this Saturday in Madison.

To celebrate, Rocket City Mom has updated our handy directory of Farmer’s Markets and U-Pick stands just for you. We even included a super-helpful map to help you get there! If you love sweet Spring strawberries, local free-range eggs, or biting into a ripe, summer-sweetened Alabama tomato, you should go ahead and bookmark our list here. Opening Day for Madison’s Market

The Madison City Farmer’s Market has grown so big, it recently relocated to a larger space. But don’t panic! It’s only a quarter mile down the road on the grounds of Trinity Baptist Church. Now there’s more parking, more farmers, and more delicious goodies to be had, all minus the traffic snarls on Hughes Road.

New & Notable This Year

Carrie’s Kitchen is offering farm-to-table pre-prepared meals for busy families. All you do is swing by the market, pick out an entree & sides and pop them in the oven! I’m really excited about this new option – I can feel good about feeding my kids fresh veggies that were in the ground just a day before, save precious time in the kitchen, AND support a local small business. Triple win!

Madison Farmers Market

Tea vendors Piper & Leaf Gardens will be back, as well as Humble Heart Farms, Happy Hen Farm, and the popular Mason Dixon Bakery. See the complete list of the Madison City vendors here – they’re adding new ones all the time!

Madison City Farmer’s Market Chair, Mary Stallings, is excited about the new space and new additions. “This will be the largest market we’ve ever had! The challenge we have is meeting that balance of keeping our customers and vendors happy.” They plan to do that by offering more berry and fruit vendors – fruit is very popular –  as well as eggs, milk, and meat vendors. They’ve also added breakfast items for those early morning shoppers. Hot biscuits & preserves, anyone?
